Mystery Sunday...

NP organised Mystery Sunday a couple of weeks ago... I love suprizu's and this one was a lot of fun!

After meeting up with two pals we arrived at Taronga Zoo... There aren't too many places you can run around like kids and act a bit crazy!

I hadn't been to the zoo since I was 14, and I remember I wasn't very interested in the animals. But this time around - Wow! We have some amazing creatures on this planet.

One of the places I really loved was the old Elephant Pavillion... the elephants have a brand new enclosure now, but the old building is quite lovely... kind of British India style with lovely colours and patterning (Thanks D for the photos!).

Going over the top of the zoo in the sky-lift after walking through it was lots of fun... I could almost imagine I was in Jurassic Park, just about to come across a T-Rex! (I have a soft spot for dinosaurs).

It made me a little sad to see many of the animals so far away from their homes, but I also think the zoo does some terrific research to help the natural populations of many species, and does a great job promoting environmental awareness. I'm a little bit undecided about the whole situation - I'd love to hear your opinion if you have one!

I've missed you...

Hello my friends! It has been a little while since I last said hello... I feel like I have a lot to say and catch up on with you!

Firstly... Yumi! Thank you so much for starting your inspirational blog Dear Plastic... I can't wait to see your journey - we bump into so much plastic everyday! I think it will be a great place to get good ideas and I for one am going to be making my own nifty on-the-go plastic bag-bag!

I've been busy with some exciting activities over the past month... I can't wait to share them with you...

plaaa stick

I read about this issue in the Good Weekend and then found this amazing video through The Critical Slide Society blog.

You can see the rest at 'Garbage Island' on Vice Magazine's VBS TV
There are 3 parts, each part is around 20mins long but well worth the time.

It makes you realise how irresponsible humans are with things they create, consume and then discard...how we are making others suffer due to our carelessness.
...just  when I felt all hope was lost... an amazing Mr David de Rothschild is doing something positive to create awareness and hopefully... CHANGE!

You can see more of his amazing-ness here and here!

I've been lucky enough to get to know Kate through our mutual friend Alice... you know those moments where you are 5 minutes into a conversation with a new person and you just know they are your kinda gal?

Her Etsy shop is full of kawaii goodies... hope you have time to visit!

Jizō Statues, Koya-San

NP and I were lucky enough to travel to Koya-San. This mountain is very special. In the graveyard there were very large trees and these little Jizo Statues. They protect little children in the afterlife and are decorated in these lovely bibs, aprons and hats.

Honey, Lemon & Ginger Tea

This is something I'm making every morning to warm me up... There's no real recipe - just slice a knob of ginger, pop it into a tea pot with a squeeze of lemon and enough honey to make it sweet-ish.

I'm enjoying the Miellerie range of honey from Tasmania - our friend Dutch smuggled some back for me after a trip visiting his family. Though you don't need to be in Tasmania to find - organic food shops and delicatessens are now stocking the four different types... pop over to this site to read more about this lovely find...

I also love my local honey provided by my friend Nicki who's local community has their own hives. I've been told that eating local honey can help with hay-fever, and so far so good! If you'd like to know where you can get this honey from just email me!
